Troy Tulowitzki “Blindsided” By Trade For Shortstop Jose Reyes

Troy Tulowitzki is a five-time All-Star who spent nine years with the Colorado Rockies organization. Now his tenure there has come to an end as he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Jose Reyes on Monday night. According to Tulowitzki, the trade was as much of a shock to him as it was to the rest of the MLB and its fans. He claims the team told him if they were going to make any big moves regarding him, they would tell him. That wasn't the case. Tulowitzki spoke about being "blindsided" by the Rockies during an interview with the Denver Post.

"I felt like I got blindsided a bit. I thought I was in the loop, in the conversation," Tulowitzki told the Denver Post. "So it definitely caught me by surprise. I was shocked and it caught me off guard. I think maybe I was a little naive to think I would be so connected to the (trade) process."

Tulowitzki is expected to lace up his boots for the Blue Jays starting on Friday. He'll officially be added to the team Wednesday. While he wishes there was more of a communication with the Rockies, he is excited to be playing for a team contending for a playoff spot.

"I get the chance to play for a contender, and maybe this will revive my career a little bit," Tulowitzki continued.

Also in the trade, the Blue Jays recieved reliever LaTroy Hawkins and pitchers Miguesl Castro, Jeff Hoffman and Jesus Tinoco were sent to Colorado. Hawkins opened up about the trade as well. He said he is happy to now be a part of an organization in the hunt for a playoff spot.

"It's always good to be in a place where you're in playoff contention," Hawkins said. "We weren't that in Colorado so this is definitely an upgrade."
