Meryl Streep and her daughter Mamie Gummer this week opened up about working together on their upcoming film, Ricki and the Flash where they play a mother and daughter with a strained relationship. Find out what the multi-Oscar winner and her daughter had to say below.
Zee News reports, "Gummer's character blaming her mother for putting her music career before her family. But in real life, Gummer said she does not want to hurt Streep." The film was an excellent chance for the two to be able to finally act opposite one another seeing as the last time they worked together was twenty years ago when Gummer was a baby in Heartburn.
ABC News reports Streep saying, "I was blown away. I'm not objective - I think she's fantastic. ... But I think other people have corroborated that." It's clear Streep is extremely proud of her daughter and that they had a great time working together. Gummer had similar sentiments about her mother and even said that some of the material, because their characters are also mother and daughter, may have been a bit too mean or hurtful. She told People, "There's this one scene where I really was quite eviscerating and I was worried about if my words actually wounded her, but after the first take, I looked over and she just had this big grin on her face, so that was a pleasant surprise."
Gummer also said of her mother to Us Weekly of how in awe she was of how "Respectful [Mom] is of everyone on a project. It makes for a really pleasant experience." Working together must have been a blast, but Streep isn't an amateur when it comes to acting and she wasn't practicing method acting here.
The mother and daughter pair hit the red carpet on Monday promoting their film, "Alongside their costar, '80s pop god Rick Springfield (who plays Streep's bandmate and boyfriend), who often posed between the ladies while rocking a violet tuxedo," Us Weekly says. Ricki and the Flash will hit theaters August 7, 2015!
