Adam Levine hosted "Saturday Night Live" on Jan. 26 and along with the night's guest stars he redefined the popular catchphrase "YOLO" in a digital short.
Cameron Diaz, Jerry Seinfeld and Danny McBride appeared on "SNL" but former cast member Andy Samberg along with Levine, the Lonely Island and musical guest Kendrick Lamar took the show in a short designed in a hip-hop anthem style.
The "YOLO" acronym, which stands for "you only live once," took on a new meaning when the men turned it into a safety warning.
"You know that we are still young / so don't be dumb / don't trust anyone," Levine sang in the beginning of the clip, which warned against using illegal drugs and going to loud clubs, "cause it's bad for your ears."
The song then advised listeners against using the banking system or any form of transportation, and then focused on different topics such as cooking meat "til it's done," and comparing financial advice to wearing a straitjacket so "you're safe from yourself."
The video garnered much positive attention and Twitter users continued to refer to it with the hashtag #SNL. On Monday, tweets continued on about the "SNL" digital short.
"Yolo is now my ringtone!"
"yolo with kendrick lamar n adam levine LOOOOOOL"
"Can't get the chorus to "Yolo" out of my head. Also, cook your meat until it's done."
"Adam Levine Hosted SNL this week...this "YOLO" music video was a highlight of the show!! A must see!"
"Honestly, that #YOLO song the lonely island is really amazing."
"Can someone just pay me to sleep until noon and then watch the #YOLO digital short about a billion times?"
