Adele's estranged father, Mark Evans, admitted on Sunday to not being a good father but said he wants to rekindle his relationship with the "Rolling in the Deep" singer and meet his only grandchild.
Adele cut Evans, a part-time plumber, out of her family life following a family dispute in 2011, according to Daily Mail. Evans said he tried mending ties by contacting the singer and showing up at her record company offices in London, but all his efforts have been ignored. He became a grandfather for the first time when Adele gave brith in October and said he is sad that he misses out on "simple pleasures" like taking his grandson out for ice cream.
Evans, 49, said, "I've left messages on her phone, I've written to her and I've sent her birthday and Christmas cards. But it's like I'm dead to her."
"I'm not interested in her celebrity status or her money," he added. "I just want my daughter back and I want to be a proper granddad to the little one."
Adele and her boyfriend Simon Konecki have a 3-month-old son. The singer has not revealed the baby's name to the public yet but the singer was photographed wearing a gold necklace that had the name "Angelo" engraved on it, leading many to believe that is the name of her son.
E! News reported that British tabloids cited Angelo James Konecki as the child's full name, though Adele has yet to publicly confirm or deny the information.
"Not only did I hear I was going to be a grandad for the first time via the media, I found out the same way that she's calling the baby Angelo James," Evans said. "I want to do all the grandad stuff with him - feed the ducks in park, skim pebbles in the sea...And then there's all the music we could listen to together."
"I just want normality. I want to be like any other grandad," he added.
Adele will perform her James Bond song "Skyfall" at the Oscars in February.
