Mad Men's leading lady, January Jones blames her recent hair-loss problems on her own experimentation with hair dye. Known mostly as a blonde bombshell, Jones has been a brunette and redhead as well. The ladder was for a recent role in the western Sweetwater where she also added extensions to her locks. She admitted to perhaps having to start thinking about wigs and even shaving her head!
Jones has not been in the spotlight a whole lot lately considering her dwindling screen time and lackluster character arc on AMC's Mad Men. The last we saw of her character, Betty Draper, involved a fat suit and a new Internet meme. Off-screen, January Jones caught a lot of attention when she gave birth to son Xander in 2011 without naming the child's father. Rumors sprang up from all directions but she still has yet to provide any details on this topic. Other than all of that, 2012 was a quiet year for Ms. Jones.
Perhaps this was a good thing, though. Mainly focussing on herself and her son, Jones is definitely primed for a career comeback in 2013. Reports say that Jones has a more prominent role in the upcoming sixth season of one of television's hottest shows, Mad Men. Betty Draper's icy demeanour will remind viewers of the show's earlier seasons in a highly anticipated return. As mentioned before, Jones worked on the film Sweetwater, which added to her current hair condition but also aided her love life. In 2012 she started dating the film's director, Noah Miller, during production.
It looks like January Jones is set for a good 2013, but what about her hair? At the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards, she turned heads with a hairstyle straight out of David Bowie's book. Though Jones is afraid she is losing hair, she is not afraid to show off what is left of it! It seems like she is going to get all that she can out of her hair before she loses it all. For now, try not to expect anything too drastic when it comes to color changes or anything like that, but do look out for new hairdos.
Many actresses have had similar hair problems. Carey Mulligan has had the exact same problem and has kept a short cut ever since the problems arose. Michelle Williams has kept her hair short for quite some time and has enlisted the use of wigs for her roles. Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway voluntarily shaved their heads for roles and have worked the look and even wigs to cope. I feel like January Jones can easily deal with this newfound problem by taking notes from these other young actresses. It is clearly not the end of the world when your hair goes bad, but more of an opportunity, especially for actors and actresses, to be more easily cast in roles not dependant on the color, length or general look of his or her hair.
