DC's Legends of Tomorrow is on its way, which means we have plenty of time to hear from the executive producers about what to expect from the series.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke to EPs Marc Guggenheim and Phil Klemmer, and Guggenheim spoke about the tone of the series. He said he encouraged the writers to read Dan Jurgens' 2011 comic book Time Masters: Vanishing Point because it was "a good series for its depiction of Rip Hunter and a crazy combination of characters."
Guggenheim added that the series will "contain elements of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis’ Justice League International run."
As for Hawkgirl, the EP would not confirm if she comes from Thanagar, but he did say we will "get a chance to see" her origin, as it is "one of the more faithful origins that [The CW] have told."
Moving onto Jay Jackson, many fans have speculated that the character could be the identity of another hero. But Klemmer stated outright that "Jay Jackson is not code for any other superhero."
Finally, Klemmer spoke about Booster Gold, the time-traveling superhero who would seemingly be right at home on this series. "I wish I could tease a Booster thing, but you might have to wait a good long while, at least on our show" he said. "Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things..." he added coyly.
The main villain of next season of Arrow will be Damien Darhk, played by Neal McDonough. Guggenheim offered the first in-depth look at the character in a recent interview with Access Hollywood in which he revealed that Darhk is the most evil villain yet on the show.
"Damien's a different kind of villain than we've had on the show before. He's not as centurion as Ra's, he's not as looney tune as Slade, he's not as -- and people will be surprised I use this word -- but he's not as noble as Malcolm Merlyn. He's pure evil," he said. "We wanted someone who was truly, truly malevolent. We've never done that on the show before. All of our big bads always thought they were doing…the wrong thing for the right reason. This guy does the wrong thing for the wrong reasons."
The executive producer also implied that Darhk will arrive relatively quickly in Season 4. "It's a bad situation to have this guy coming in. And the other thing that we're doing that's different is in past seasons, you've had to wait 'til usually the mid-season finale to meet the big bad and have Oliver confront the big bad. We are coming out of the gate strong," he said. "We're not waiting and actually, that itself has really energized the show and it infuses even the 'villain of the week' episodes with an epic-ness that they wouldn't otherwise have."
