The Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World, has found its leading young lady in 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard. She will be playing Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga, the stars of the original series. Ben Savage, who is reprising his iconic role as Cory Matthews tweeted his excitement about Blanchard's casting:
I have a beautiful, new daughter. Welcome to the family @rowblanchard! #GirlMeetsWorld

This is a role of a lifetime for the young Blanchard. Boy Meets World is still fresh in the minds of young adults. It pretty much walked a generation of awkward teenagers just trying to deal with life through the most important years of their lives. Sure it was a comedy and mainly focussed on the antics of Cory Matthews and friends, but it also tackled important sunjects as well. There were episodes on peer pressure, love, drugs, family issues and really everything one would go through at that age. Now with Girl Meets World, a whole new era can benefit. Also, the switch to a girl in the title role is an incredibly inviting aspect of this new show. Another draw for the show is simply to see how Cory and Topanga are doing. These are characters we grew up with and now they are parents to this young girl who will surely face similar trials. When producers announced in November 2012 that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel (Topanga) would be joining the cast, the Internet exploded with anticipation. The casting of the adorable Rowan Blanchard is already stirring up excitement. Sure there is a chance that Girl Meets World will be dissapointing but as far as the original formula is there, this show has the chance to become as iconic as its predecessor. Rowan took part in a nationwide search conducted by Disney Channel producers and made a lasting impression as she walked into the audition. Producer Michael Jacobs was reminded of Ben Savage's appeal as Cory when seeing Blanchard and knew that she would be a perfect fit for Riley. Rowan's twitter account is filling up with praise to which she has done a pretty good job in terms of responding. I think that this tweet definitely sums up her world right now:
SOOO surreal... OMG — Rowan Blanchard (@rowblanchard) January 29, 2013
Expect a lot from Rowan Blanchard and definitely anticipate a lot of coverage of Disney Channel's Girl Meets World.
