Hostess Brands is close to deciding on a buyer for the popular and recently discontinued Twinkies (as well as other) snacks. Two preferred buyers at the top of the list are Apollo Global Management and C. Dean Metropoulos & Co. This is exciting news for fans of the the recently bankrupt Hostess Brands since finding a buyer is the first important step to getting those delicious Twinkies back on the shelves of grocery stores all over America.

Back in November, the 82-year-old Hostess Brands announced their closure.

This was a huge blow in terms of the United States' domestic products and caused many factories to close. Jobs were lost and Twinkies were off the shelves and even stockpiled by fanatics. Many people were bold enough to blame the Hostess closure on the re-election of President Barack Obama. People really, REALLY love these snacks. Hopefully this news of a possible resurgence of Twinkies lets some people sleep better tonight.

But Hostess is not just Twinkies. There are other familiar names under the Hostess name, such as Wonder Bread and Drake's products. Hostess recently announced that bids were accepted for these other brands. Flowers Foods, best known for its Tastykake brand, placed a for ownership of 6 of Hostess' bread brands, including Wonder Bread, for $390 million. McKee Foods Corp., best known for its Little Debbie products, agreed to pay $27.5 million for the Drake's brand and some of its equipment.

So who are these companies bidding on our beloved Twinkies? Appolo Global Management was founded by banker Leon Black and has invested in companies such including Claire's Stores and CKE Restaurants. Would America be happy with Twinkies in the hands of a banker? C. Dean Metropoulos & Co. has ties to brands like Vlassic Pickles and Swanson frozen dinners. Plus, founder Dean Metropoulus is veteran in the packaged foods trade and recently bought Pabst Blue Ribbon beer in 2010. Personally I am leaning towards Metropoulus because of its history and my bias towards anything involving Pabst Blue Ribbon.

On Monday, Hostess Brands filed to stop paying retiree benefits for former employees. This whole process has become a mess and is hopefully on its way to a solution. The next stage is to accept a bid from either Appolo Global Management or C. Dean Metropoulos & Co. and see how it affects America's Twinkie problem.
