There isn't much that can stop Tom Brady. Sure there was the championship drought or the two times the New York Giants beat the New Englange Patriots with minutes left in the Super Bowl, but other than that, Brady is football's Captain Clutch the way Derek Jeter was for the Yankees. Not even legal proceedings can stop Brady because a day after showing up to a Federal Court, he laced up his boots, put on a jersey and threw the football around for the Pats against the Green Bay Packers in Thursday Night's pre-season loss. He didn't play much but it's just a testament to how much Brady loves being on the field.
Here are some highlights of Brady and backup Jimmy Garoppolo from last night:
During the postgame press conference, Coach Bill Belichick was asked about his decision to use Brady and the answer was as dll as a Belichick press conference usually is.
"We played a lot of players tonight," he said.
Brady played the first two series in the game and finished 1-of-4 for 10 yards. The Patriots lost the game behind the reigns of the backup quarterback Garoppolo, who saw playing time after seven snaps. He went 20-for-30 for 159 yards, was sacked seven times, threw for zero touchdowns and had one interception.
"I'm going into it pretty much the same way I would whether this was going on or not," Garoppolo said after his poor performance. "Whether you're the backup, starter, third-string or whatever, you have to have the mindset that you're the starter."
During Wednesday's hearing over Brady's four-game suspension, the DeflateGate talks once again fell flat. The NFL's lawyer, Daniel L. Nash says there was direct evidence that "implicates Mr. Brady", while the Super Bowl winning quarterback's lawyer is demanding to know just what that evidence is.
The best part of the case came when Judge Richard Berman talked about Brady's stats pre and post deflation.
"Turns out, Mr. Brady did better with higher inflated balls than underinflated balls. You might say he got no competitive advantage," Berman said.
Judge Berman even made fun of the term "DeflateGate."
"This 'DeflateGate.' I'm not sure where the 'gate' comes from."
