It's being reported that on Sunday, an Indonesian Trigana Air Service airliner went missing while enroute to the city of Oksibil. The plane was holding 54 people. Reports state that the short flight encountered some bad weather over Indonesia's eastern province of Papua.
The flight was flying from Papua's capital of Jayapura to the aforementioned Oksibil.
The Associated Press is reporting that locals told the authorities that they had spotted a plane "flying low before crashing into a mountain."
Aboard the plane were 49 passengers and five crewmembers. Of the passengers, five were children and two were infants.
The flight was said to have been a short one, only going to last 42 minutes after having taken off around 2 p.m. (1 a.m. ET) from Papua.
Heavy rains and winds were expected during the flight along with heavy spouts of fog. It was during these times that ground control lost contact.

Per the report, "the plane lost contact minutes before it was scheduled to land," according to Susanto, the head of the search and rescue team in Papua.
With that in mind, NBC News is reporting that there are conflicting reports as to when contact was lost. They also claim that due to the mountainous terrain in Indonesia, the area is "not conducive to any search" at this moment.
