An employee stationed in a Seattle, Washington K-Mart stockroom received a rather shocking "high" when he/she went to open a shipment and discovered ten-pounds of marijuana wrapped in garbage bags and pages of a Korean newspaper. According to recent reports, the hefty shipment of pot was originally postmarked to travel from L.A. to Philadelphia, but somehow managed to wind up at the Seattle, WA K-Mart store located at 13200 Aurora Ave. N. on Monday afternoon (Jan. 28). The responsible staffer immediately alerted the police, who quickly seized the illegal load of mysterious weed and put it into evidence. The case is still pending.
The Seattle Times reports that the marijuana shipment was delivered to the Seattle K-Mart at approximately 12 p.m. on Monday. The staff member who opened the "green" delivery called the police and reported that they just uncovered "a box containing 10 pounds of marijuana wrapped in garbage bags, covered with packing peanuts and surrounded by pages from a Korean newspaper doused in cleaning fluid."
Department spokesman Jonah Spagenthal-Lee recently told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer - "Delivery information on the package indicates it was originally shipped from Los Angeles to a Philadelphia address, but never made it to its intended destination in Philly. Whoever sent the package listed the address of the Seattle Kmart on the return label, for some reason."
Before K-Mart customers had the chance to check out the store's new "stash," the Seattle police seized the pot and placed it in evidence. The case is currently with the department's narcotics unit.
Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt was pleased with how the K-Mart employee handed the surprise shipment of munchies. She recently told KIRO, "That's an honest employee... Hopefully we can figure out who sent it and where it was going to."
FYI - with the Initiative 502 passed in November, Washington legalized recreational marijuana... legislation was passed by 56 percent of voters for the "taxation and sale of weed to adults 21 years old and older."
