Tim McGraw Sobriety and Faith Hill: Country Star Claims Sobriety Improves Marriage, Drinking Problem was 'Embarrassing'

Tim McGraw, famed country music star and accomplished actor, recently opened up about his sobriety and how it has helped his marriage to fellow country music star Faith Hill. News of McGraw's apparent drinking problem came as a shocking development in an otherwise picture-perfect relationship with Hill. McGraw started his sobriety in 2008, saying it affected his relationship with his wife and their 3 daughters, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey. A self-described whisky man, McGraw would worry family and friends with the amount of alcohol he would consume. There have been reports of Hills mounting embarrassment with her husband's drinking.  Once he realized the strain that alcohol had on his life, Tim decided to quit. McGraw's main concern with his abuse was the affect on his relationship with Hill and now that he is sober, he hopes that he is "less embarrassing" to her.

The 45-year-old McGraw reached country music stardom with his second studio album, Not A Moment Too Soon, becoming the best selling country album of 1994. "Don't Take the Girl," one of the singles off of the album, established McGraw's image of a rugged yet sensitive man. Not A Moment Too Soon also lead to two Academy of Country Music awards for Top New Male Vocalist and Album of the year. McGraw's next album, All I Want, added to his success and even lead to him meeting his wife. Faith Hill was the supporting act on McGraw's "Spontaneous Combustion Tour" in 1996. After Hill broke off her engagement to music producer Scott Hendricks, she and McGraw dated and were then married on October 6 of that year. The two both achieved more success as their careers continued and Hill even having crossover success into the world of Pop music. The couple became and continue to be country music royalty with an image only slightly tarnished by the recent news of McGraw's alcohol abuse.

McGraw's sobriety is also helping his focus on his other goals in life. Aside from his incredibly successful career in country music, Tim McGraw has also dabbled in acting. In 2004, he received critical acclaim for his role in the film Friday Night Lights, where he portrayed an overbearing father to a high school football player. McGraw's filmography also includes featured roles in Flicka, The Blind Side, and Country Strong. He recieved his own star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. Politics is another spectrum that McGraw hopes to become heavily involved with in the future. McGraw is a Democrat and has ambitions of political office in his sights.
