49ers Gay Rights Ad gets pulled [VIDEO]: Super Bowl Hopeful 49ers Want No Part in "It Gets Better" Campaign

The Super Bowl hopeful San Francisco 49ers were the first team in the National Football League to make an ad for the "It Gets Better" campaign, supporting gay rights. But due to some controversial statements and actions of some team members, the organization has pulled the 49ers' ad. The ad has been taken off the "It Gets Better" website, but can still be viewed below.

Two team members featured in the ad have recently said that they did not know that they were participating in a gay rights advertisement. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks and tackle Isaac Sopoaga were under the impression that the video that they were appearing in was for an anti-bullying campaign. The confusion could be valid since one of the main stances of the "It Gets Better" campaign is to stop the bullying of LGBT youths. The two have come out to say that they do not want their names to be in any way a part of the Gay Rights Campaign.

During a Super Bowl media day interview recently, 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver made some very homophobic statements during a radio interview. When asked if he has ever been approached by gay football player, Culliver went on a sort of rant against the culture and how he believed a gay athlete would not be appropriate in the locker rooms. After these recent comments (obviously) caused some bad press for the cornerback and the San Francisco 49ers, Culliver released the following apology:

"The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience."

The 49ers have to comment on any sort of disciplinary actions that may be brought upon Culliver, but considering he is such an important member of the team, it will probably not affect his game time.

After all of the issues arising from the Super Bowl bound 49ers and the issue of gay rights, the "It Gets Better" organization has decided to drop their ad featuring the team members and have begun a disassociation with the team. The NFL is a huge participant in the Gay Right Campaign. Specifically the association supports the "It Gets Better" organization by encouraging players to participate in its ads, so this issue with the 49ers is very disheartening.
