Selena Gomez Talks Justin Bieber, Love and Why She Took Her Purity Ring Off

It's been a year since Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber called it quits after their four year relationship. Gomez opens up about her relationship with Bieber and how because she's in the public eye, her ultimate decision to stop wearing her purity from when she was dating Nick Jonas.

"I didn't think I was doing anything bad by falling in love," she said of her relationship with the pop singer, which began in 2010. Yahoo! News reports. "There's such an emphasis on people being the perfect thing and then destroying them because it's good press."

It seems like being in the limelight doesn't always result in negative effects. Gomez has a handle on what the responsibility of a celebrity is and coming away unscathed, as well as not worrying anymore about what the public and tabloids will report about her future romantic relationships.

She recalls dating Nick Jonas when she was thirteen "and wore a purity ring, which symbolized her decision not to have sex until she was married. (For the record, Jonas wore one too)," Yahoo! News says. Gomez says she remember even going to her father about her decision. "I said, Dad, I want a promise ring...He went to the church and got it blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids. I'm going to keep my promise to myself, to my family and to God," she said, E! News reports. She doesn't regret that decision and she also doesn't regret then taking off that purity ring while she was dating Bieber. According to Page Six, she continued  "I'm also not embarrassed to say that the ring has come off. I got it when I was 13 and I respect so much what it represented, but it isn't for everyone." She explains how she got through it and told E! News that sometimes "you have to lie to yourself to get through the criticism, and then you're in your closet crying...It's been like that for me a couple of times, but I only want to learn from those things."

For now, Gomez says that not only is she ready to move on and fall in love, but that the next time it's something special she really wants to work harder to not care what everyone else thinks. You go SelGo!
