Weird Al Yankovic Supports Young 'Star Wars' Fan Being Bullied

Weird Al Yankovic lent a supportive hand to a young girl who was being bullied for having a passion for all things Star Wars. Little Layla Murphy, who is just 8 years old, is a huge fan of the legendary sci-fi movie series that have been on-screen since the 70’s, but has faced scrutiny from girls in her class for liking the films, and embracing her fandom.

Reports say that girls have been criticizing her, trying to convince her that the movies were only for boys, which caused her to eventually stop wearing her favorite Star Wars gear to school. Along with her favorite R2-D2 jacket that she commonly wore, she even ditched one of her other favorite sci-fi items, a special Guardians of the Galaxy shirt.

Just when all hope was lost, Murphy found a supporter and fellow fan of the series in celebrity Weird Al Yankovic. Apparently, the parody songwriter happens to be a mega fan of Star Wars, which made him want to step in and give Layla Murphy her confidence back.

According to a Facebook post by The 501st Legion, a charitable costume group for the movie, they invited her to attend a concert put on by the group, and got a visit from Yankovic. The two got to talk about her love for the films, and he even sent her home with her very own Stormtrooper suit to wear whenever she desires.

On top of her new uniform, Murphy also now carries around trading cards given to her by the 501st Legion, which she puts inside of her Chewbacca backpack. Murphy even adorably revealed to the organization that she loves when people tell her, “What a cute little boy,” before taking off her new Stormtrooper helmet to reveal that she is, in fact, a little girl.
