Seth Rudetsky revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker was originally not on board to play Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City. The radio host wrote in his Playbill column about the Footloose actress being hesitant to join the television series back in the year of 1998 when the pilot was filmed. Apparently, Parker was worried about being in a gig that required a series, as opposed to her being able to branch from one project to the next. Obviously it all worked out, and the network even blessed us with some movies. But is there another one in the works?
"We, of course, talked about Sex and The City and turns out, she was reluctant to do the pilot because she didn't really want to do a series. However, she loved the script so she filmed it and then forgot about it. Months later, she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely. She really didn't want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a 'journeyman,'” he wrote in the column.
He even added, "She tried various ways to get out of it including telling HBO that she would film three projects for free if they'd release her from her contract!" he added."Basically, they convinced her to honor her deal, and she now has no regrets."
Despite her being upset with the series being picked up, Rudetsky revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker later felt no regrets to continuing the show with the rest of the castmates. On top of the reveal, Rudetsky also said that Parker mentioned a new project being in the works. "She told us that there may be a project coming up involving all the ladies!” he penned.
Thank goodness SJP stayed on the show, or we all may not have fallen as in love with the female-driven series as millions did so.
