Kevin Bacon, the 54-year-old actor, enjoys taking the subway whenever he needs to get around when he is home in New York City. His roles in such films as Animal House, Footloose, and Mystic River have made him one of the most recognizable actors alive today. There is even the "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game which connects any other actor to Bacon within 6 moves. It is definitely not uncommon to see actors on the subway system, but the attention drives some of them to ... well, drive. Not Kevin, though. He actually likes doing less "actor-like" and more everyday things in life. Though with fans armed with smart phones and applications like Instagram and Twitter, it is definitely hard to keep a subway ride "normal."
Bacon recently said he takes the subway for its convenience. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, and their children Travis and Sosie, and says that public transportation is the easiest way to travel around the city. While on the train, Bacon does what everyone else does: he plays games on his phone. Yes, even Kevin Bacon plays Angry Birds. Some might assume such a star would not appreciate unwanted attention in such close quarters with other residents, but Bacon seems to enjoy it. He recently revealed that he tried to go incognito on the subway to see what happened and did not like it, saying:
"Fame is very much a double-edged sword. I had a prosthetic disguise made, because I wanted to see what it would be like not to be recognised. I didn't like it very much - no one was nice to me. People didn't bother me, but they also looked right through me."
Kevin also enjoys other seemingly mundane aspects of life that, it turns out, people like me take from granted. The actor speaks highly of how accomplished he is at vacuuming the loose stuffing from torn up god toys off around his home. With all of this "regular guy stuff" that Bacon keeps talking about, his public image has always been in a positive light. I know that I will be on the look out whenever I use the subway system from now on.
Currently, Bacon can be seen on the Fox television drama/thriller "The Following." Kevin portrays former FBI agent, Ryan Hardy, who is back on the case of the criminal that made his career, Joe Carroll. Carroll (played by James Purefoy) is a convicted murdered who has a cult of followers still out in the public committing crimes based around the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
