Reports confirm that federal prison guard Nancy Gonzalez was arrested on Tuesday (Feb. 5) for allegedly having an illegal sexual affair with inmate Ronell Wilson, a former gang member infamously deemed the "cop killer." Wilson intentionally impregnated Gonzalez in an attempt to avoid the death penalty... he was convicted of capital murder in 2003 for killing two undercover New York City police officers in Staten Island, NY and now faces life in prison or the death by lethal injection. The 29-year-old guards-woman, who insists she was only looking for "someone to love her," is now eight months pregnant with the prisoner's child and could face up to 15 years in prison.
According to court documents filed on Tuesday, Gonzalez began a sexual affair with Wilson while working the night shift at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. She found out that she was pregnant in June 2012, just a few months after the inappropriate relationship began. Federal agents arrested Gonzalez at her Huntington, Long Island home on Tuesday. Gonzalez's arraignment is scheduled for later Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn Federal Court and she could face up to15 years in prison if convicted.
The seedy guard-inmate relationship was allegedly ousted by prison snitches. According to reports, Gonzalez would sexually service Wilson while the other prisoners were locked down in their cells. One prison informant spotted her moving away from Wilson's cell door while he was standing in the doorway "with his pants down, exposing his genitals," according to the New York Daily News.
Gonzalez eventually admitted to the pregnancy and illicit relationship in a recorded telephone conversation with her boyfriend, who is also currently incarcerated in state prison.
According to court documents, "[Gonzalez is] kind of got sucked into his world... [She] felt like, well, why not give him (Wilson) a child as far as giving him some kind of hope." According to Gonzalez, "I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child."
Wilson was convicted of murdering undercover NYPD detectives Rodney Andrews and James Nemorin during a gun buy and bust in 2003. Although initially sentenced to death by a federal jury, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the sentence due to prosecutorial error in 2010. However, Wilson still faces life in prison or death by lethal injection. A new jury must decide his fate while Wilson's lawyers currently seek to convince a judge that he's ineligible for the death penalty because he's "mentally disabled."
