Lionsgate Home Entertainment is bringing Texas Rising, the star-studded mini-series from The History Channel, to Blu-ray and DVD. Before arriving in stores, check out this behind-the-scenes clip from the television event, which starred Bill Paxton, Chad Michael Murray, and Brendan Fraser.
According to the plot synopsis, the eight-hour epic miniseries follows the legendary story of hero Sam Houston as the Republic of Texas's intense struggled for independence against the forces of fierce Mexican General Santa Anna (Oliver Martinez). This would ultimately form America's oldest and most legendary law enforcement agencies, The Texas Rangers. With the help of "Yellow Rose of Texas" (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they faced insurmountable odds and claimed a piece of history for themselves.
In an interview with Collider, Paxton reveals what interested about the project, " I'm the only actor to have come from Hatfields & McCoys, and I had great success with that. I really liked (producer) Leslie Greif, who had put that together, and he had been working on this for awhile. And then, he said, 'Roland Joffé is probably going to be the director.' When I heard that they were considering him as the director, that made me very excited. I'm a big fan of his, and he had this whole thing figured out. Roland really knew all our characters, and knew where they fit into this world that he was created. I felt like I got great direction from him. He's somebody you can just relax with because you know you're in capable hands."
Directed by Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields), the action-packed Western features anall-star cast which includes Bill Paxton (Big Love), Brendan Fraser (The Mummy), Ray Liotta (Goodfellas); Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Watchmen); Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea); Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful); Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow), Chad Michael Murray (Agent Carter) and Max Thieirot (Bates Motel).
In an interview with Variety, Jeffrey Dean Morgan explains the challenges of a western, "In a Western, you talk more with your eyes and your actions than you do with big speeches. I love that. I think that's the problem with the storytelling we have today, you tend to over-explain. In a Western, you don't over-explain. It is what it is."
The Blu-ray and DVD are loaded with over 30 minutes of never-before-seen bonus material, including "Capturing the Revolution: Filming Texas Rising," and two additional featurettes that look at the real lives of Sam Houston and Antonio López de Santa Anna.
Texas Rising arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on September 1.
