From the director of the Austin Powers movies, HBO recently aired the first season finale of political satire, The Brink. This is the prefect opportunity to look back on episode 1-10, as Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), Rafiq Massoud (Aasif Mandvi), and Alex Talbot (Jack Black) tried to prevent World War III.
In our previous recaps, Alex (Black) and Rafiq (Mandvi) found themselves reluctantly teaming up together after a rebel army seized the Pakistani government. While President Julian Navarro (Esai Morales) is trying to prevent war, smarmy Walter Larson (Robbins) is trying to stay cool in a room full of trigger happy politicians. Two stoned pilots, Glenn (Eric Ladin) and Zeke (Pablo Schreiber) are all that stand before the world enters World War III.
Check out our 5 Thoughts on the first season of The Brink here:
5) This Dude Wants His Emmy!
The Shawshank Redemption actor just about stole ever scene as he chewed on his foul-mouthed dialogue. In episode one, talk about an introduction! Larson is being strangled, on purpose too, by the hooker he paid for. If Tim Robbins doesn't get an Emmy for this show, we have to riot!
4) That Vomit Gag!
In episode two, Half-Cocked, doped up inside the flying aircraft, Glenn wasn't feeling too good and let it all out. The entire cockpit was covered in dripping puke. It was ridiculously insane and disgusting at the same time.
Bonus:
In our MStars News interview. Ladin discussed what went on behind-the-scenes, "Everybody's vomited before. Little did I know that Jammer would be vomiting again in episode nine, which was last week. And then I got to vomit again! So I'm starting to think the writers just keep writing Jammer to vomit just to see how I can come up with new and inventive ways to vomit. But it was a lot of fun! I mean obviously we're inside a cockpit! So when we were shooting that scene, we had pieces of vomit dripping from the top of the cockpit down onto us, which was kind of disgusting!"
3) The Best Right Hand Man Is A Woman!
Shout-out to actress Maribeth Monroe, who played Walter's go-to person, Kendra Peterson. Dedicated to her work, Kendra kept sexual affairs to herself and even put her hands in the urinal when Walter dropped his cell. There is just something cute and sexy about Maribeth Monroe as she played "the straight man" to Walter's outrageous antics.
2) Aasif Mandvi!
With Jon Stewart leaving hosting duties, I was pretty sure Mandvi would step in for The Daily Show. During his guest stint on Person of Interest, Mandvi was straight-up serious, no comic relief, as a paranoid tech genius. The Last Airbender actor even wrote the seventh episode of the series. Just goes to show, there is life after The Daily Show!
1) So That's Where It Gets Its Title From!
We are always at the brink of disaster when it comes down to warring nations. The season finale ended on a cliffhanger, as the African warlords now have a nuke to call their own. Thank goodness the show has been renewed for a second season, because I want to know what happens next!
The Brink will return to HBO for Season 2.
