While much of the world was engrossed in the Video Music Awards madness last night, there was another special that was taking place on TLC that brought some often hard to talk about issues to light. We definitely learned something from The Learning Channel special Breaking the Silence last night, where celebrity guests joined forces to talk about sexual abuse and to shed some light on this issue. Some big names in the entertainment industry, including Desperate Housewives Teri Hatcher, Dancing With the Stars Cheryl Burke and 19 Kids and Counting Jessa and Jill Duggar, got together to present the topic to viewers.
According to Radar Online, the girls, who were two of the victims of brother Josh Duggar's molestation scandal, attended a seminar held by sex abuse organization Darkness to Light, where they learned more about sexual molestation.
A clip that was posted to Yahoo, shows the girls and their mom, Michelle Duggar, at one of this organization's events that was held in New York City earlier this year.
Jessa and her family reflected on the information they learned about at the seminar in the clip above.
"I feel like this should be a discussion people are having, even regularly," Jessa explained. "I think that it shouldn't be a taboo subject, that we should be bringing awareness to child sexual abuse and talking about this."
The expectant mother also explained that she found that the seminar would be helpful to her in the future, according to People.
She says that she learned, "things I can do to be more aware, things I can do to set up boundaries and safeguards for my child and children, hopefully, in the future."
Even Michelle Duggar was thankful to have been able to participate in the seminar.
"I was so glad that my girls and I were able to do this together," she explained. "That we could just be a support and encouragement to each other to be able to gain more information about this important topic."
