Season 5 of Person of Interest will return to CBS in 2016. In the upcoming 13 episode run, will Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), John Reese (Jim Caviezel), and Root (Amy Acker) find The Machine "crippled" in their fight against Samaritan?
As we previously mentioned, the cast and crew of POI conquered San Diego Comic Con for what appeared to be the last time for the show. This was the opportunity for POI cast and crew to finally address the rumors about the upcoming 13 episodes. If this is the last season, showrunner Jonathan Nolan revealed, "I can't predict down the road but we're very proud of the show and if it's the last season, no one is going to be disappointed with the story we tell."
In an interview with Io9, Michael Emerson discusses the conflict Harold will face in the upcoming episodes as he tries to rebuild the Machine, "That policy of his gets called into question in season five. Because what we learn is that in limiting the Machine's power or ability to grow and change, he may have crippled it in a battle with an all-out artificial super-intelligence."
The Lost actor adds, "At the beginning of season five, it will be a process of Finch and Root trying to revive the Machine. And of course, they have philosophical disagreements about what form the Machine should take, and what limits-if any-are placed on it. So I think that is the dynamic of the first few episodes of season five. Those are the big questions."
In our MStars News Interview, executive producer Greg Plageman teases what's in store for Harold Finch, "I think we'd like to explore particularly this season is, what happens when someone, you know, is able to transfer some of that burden to others, but also when something so dramatic happens that there may become a shift in the character that we haven't seen before."
As we previously mentioned, WGN America presents both Elementary and POI in their new "Prime Crime" programming block. WGN. On September 7, WGN will air a 12-hour Labor Day marathon of both shows beginning at 1pm.
