Season 6 of Game of Thrones is, sadly, still several months away, but new spoilers for the upcoming season have revealed that Freddie Stroma has been cast as Samwell Tarly's brother.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the HBO series has cast the UnREAL star as Dickon Tarly, the brother of the lovable member of the Night's Watch and best friend of the deceased Jon Snow (Kit Harington).
Stroma is best known for his work on the Lifetime comedy-drama UnREAL, in which he plays the coveted bachelor in a fictional reality show akin to ABC's real-life series, The Bachelor. He will likely also show up in Season 2 of the series.
The actor has also appeared in the final two Harry Potter movies (The Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2), and will also have a role in Michael Bay's upcoming movie 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
George R.R. Martin's books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series do not reveal much about Dickon Tarly. The books describe him as Sam's younger brother, who is more physically fit than his rotund sibling in the Night's Watch. Their father, military commander Lord Randyll Tarly, wanted Dickon to be his heir, so he gave Sam the horrific choice of joining the Night's Watch or killing him.
Bear in mind that when we last saw Sam at the end of Season 5, he was leaving Castle Black with Gilly to head to Oldtown, where he would study to become a maester.
Stroma's casting is the latest in a string of additions for Season 6 of Game of Thrones. Veteran actor Ian McShane has joined the show in a mystery role, while Max von Sydow, who has starred in dozens of films in the course of his storied career, has signed on to play the Three-Eyed Raven, the magical mentor of Bran Stark. We last saw this character in the Season 4 finale, though a different actor portrayed him.
