The September 9, 2015 episode of WWE's NXT airs on the WWE Network and features a main event of Finn Balor and Samoa Joe against The Lucha Dragons in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.
The show begins with Carmella vs. Peyton Royce. The hottest chick in the ring tries to pick up the win when Royce lands a flying body splash, but Carmella trips her up and catches her in a submission for the victory.
Backstage, Samoa Joe walks into Finn Balor's locker room and asks the NXT Champion if he is ready for their tag team match tonight, and Balor confirms that he's ready to roll. Balor heads for the door but Joe tells him he forgot his title belt and hands it to him. This seems like it could be a tease of an impending title feud between these two, but we'll have to wait and see if it actually unfolds.
We learn that the matches in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will take place on both the weekly televised episodes of NXT and at NXT live events. We see highlights of Enzo Amore and Big Cass as they earn a victory over Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton. Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson also defeated Elias Samson and Tucker Knight.
We also learn that The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) defeat newcomers Alexander Wolfe and Noah Kekoa, while the NXT tag team champions, The Vaudevillains, beat their old rivals Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy to advance.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeat Tyler Breeze and Bull Dempsey when the leader of the Bull Fit movement accidentally knocks Prince Pretty off the apron and onto the floor below. This allows Gargano to tag in Ciampa, who pins Dempsey with a nifty flip into a bridge pin for the win. The two independent stars celebrate their upset victory and leave. Tyler Breeze, angered by the loss and his partner's mistake, beats down Dempsey and leaves.
We see the bracket for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and it looks there are 16 teams in total.
Backstage, The Lucha Dragons cut a promo in both English and Spanish and discuss how honored they are to have a spot in the tournament to honor the late, great Dusty Rhodes. They are also honored to face Samoa Joe and the NXT Champion Finn Balor, but they warn the two not to take the Lucha Dragons lightly. "And Dusty, this one's for you."
Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews Dana Brooke, who says she is upset that she had to watch Bayley win the NXT Women's Championship at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. She should be the Women's Champion, and it infuriates her that people think she doesn't take wrestling seriously and thinks she just plans to use her looks to get to the top.
Dana goes out to the ring and beats Billie Kay.
Backstage, Devin interviews Apollo Crews, who talks about his debut and his plans for his time in NXT.
Finn Balor and Samoa Joe defeat The Lucha Dragons when Balor lands the coup de grace and gets the pin. The two hug and celebrate, and Balor hoists his belt high in the air alongside Joe as the show goes off the air.
