British actor Andrew Garfield has been answering questions about The Amazing Spider-Man movies for a few weeks now as he promotes his new movie 99 Homes. In one of his latest interviews, he discusses the state of superhero movies, as well as his role in the ending of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Garfield spoke to MTV News and discussed his thoughts on the current climate for superhero movies. As you might expect from his recent comments, he had some rather insightful things to say.

"From a storytelling perspective, my perspective has shifted a lot. I mean, I got to be Spider-Man. I was Spider-Man," he said. "And as I get older, you think, ’What would I show my kids?’ There may be some dangers about the one man coming and saving humanity."

Garfield seems to be echoing the recent remarks of Steven Spielberg, who has expressed his concerns about the dominance of the superhero genre but also said he believes these types of movies will go away soon. Regardless, the actor then continued to dive deeper into his thoughts.

"It kind of abdicates the rest of us of responsibility," he added. "We have had great figures in the history of time — I think of Gandhi, and John Lennon, and Martin Luther King, whoever you want to name. These great, progressive movements… But they’re movements. There just happens to be one person who is the face. That person is a community, and that person is bringing their gifts into the community. The idea that the world is going to be saved by one man, one woman, is a fallacy."

Next, Garfield talked about the ending to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was panned by fans and critics. If you recall, the scene ended just as Spider-Man and Rhino were about to fight. But surprisingly, Garfield revealed that this was actually his idea!

"That was one of my favorite parts of the film, and it was my idea," he said. "I felt the film was missing me as a seven-year-old. All of us as a seven-year-old, being inspired, and given the strength to be who we are, we can step into fear and be courageous in our own lives. I feel a little bit egotistical mentioning it was my idea. But it’s one of the things I’m really proud of."
