Japanese wrestling might be just as big as the organizations here in the United States. Their performers probably garner the same level of respect a Bret Hart does in all provinces of Canada. It's because of this that it's crazy to think Japanese stars are few and far between in the Mecca of wrestling that is WWE. You have your Tajiris, Jushin Ligers and Hideo Itamis - formerly Kenta in Japan- and that about tops the list of stars. These men have treated their respective generations to wrestling clinics and in 2015, a female Japanese wrestler will now have a chance to wow American audiences as WWE signed Kana to an NXT deal. You can check out some of her highlights right here. She's a submission specialist with some nasty arm bars and Rob Van Dam-level educated feet.
Channel Guide Magazine recently interviewed the WWE's new hire and she spoke about why she signed with the company. According to Kana, she wanted to be under the bright lights and in front of the big crowds.
"As a competitor, you always want to perform on the biggest stage, and there is no bigger stage than WWE. I was looking for a new challenge, and when the opportunity presented itself. I jumped at it," she said.
With NXT in Kana's sites, she says there are two women in particular she wants to go head-to-head with. One is a champion and the other has royalty in her blood.
"I witnessed Bayley win the women's championship and that is a goal of mine, so I definitely want to face off against her. I have also followed Charlotte, and would love to compete with her," Kana said. "As a competitor, you always want to face the best, and that's what I plan on doing."
Do you think Kana has a chance to not only be a pioneer for female competitors, but also a pioneer in the WWE's Diva revolution?
