Robert Pattinson's new film "The Childhood of a Leader" snagged two prestigious awards at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month. The 29-year-old British actor did not attend the event, although ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart did appear in promotion of her highly-anticipated 2015 drama, "Equals."
Reports confirm that Pattinson's English/French flick won two out of three total nominations:
- Lion of the Future, Luigi De Laurentiis Award for a Debut Film
- Horizons (Orizzonti), Best Director
- Horizons (Orizzonti), Best Film (lost)
This is movie producer Brady Corbet's first feature film. The plot follows "the childhood of a fascist leader during World War I" and is loosely based on Jean-Paul Sartre's short story of the same name (published in 1939's collection, "The Wall"). Corbet's story was also inspired by John Fowles' 1965 novel, "The Magus." The film also stars Berenice Bejo, Liam Cunningham, Stacy Martin, and Yolande Moreau, but still has no official release date for theaters.
Pattinson's beloved fiancee FKA Twigs must be so proud!
Rumors initially suggested that the former "Twilight" heartthrob ultimately skipped the festival in order to avoid any awkward run-ins with 25-year-old Stewart.
"He didn't want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other," An alleged insider tells the New York Post. "Venice is very small, and there are only so many parties and hotels."
But that's simply not true. Pattinson's currently in Ireland working on yet another new movie, "The Lost City of Z." He just didn't have time to fly back and forth with such a busy schedule. And his relationship with the 27-year-old English songstress Twigs continues growing strong despite bogus "break up" drama!
