Jim Jones may be the co-CEO of Diplomat Records and an original member of Dipset, but that does not mean he can abandon his car, not shovel his sidewalk, and not yield to emergency vehicles without being arrested. That is exactly happened in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. The 37-year-old Jones was charged with disorderly conduct and hindering apprehension by the Police Department.
Sergeant James Corcoran of the Fair Lawn police department observed and investigated a parked car with a parking summons on the windshield yesterday morning. The summons was issued on February 6 and the car itself had not been moved since the February 8 snowstorm. Corcoran was in the process of towing the vehicle when the owner of the car, rapper Jim Jones, stopped the officer. Jones agreed to move the car and pay the tow truck fee, but Corcoran discovered that Jones had 2 active warrants on his record. One was a $150 warrant for "failure to yield to an emergency vehicle" from 2010. The other was a $43 warrant for "failure to remove snow from the sidewalk" from 2011. Those are aasily 2 of the most boring warrants for a rapper to be issued. When Corcoran informed the Diplomats rapper of these warrants, Jones became "belligerent and uncooperative" and even reportedly "provided false information" to the arresting officer while trying to walk away from being detained. The rapper was taken to the police headquarters and later released after posting bail for the warrants. Jones is set to appear in Fair Lawn Municipal Court on February 27 and was charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. Those sound a little less boring than "not shoveling snow." He was also given a motor vehicles summons for abandoning his vehicle.
Do you think that this news of a rapper being arraigned on really lame charges will affect his image? I am not sure how the "rap game" is these days, but I grew up during the whole "East Vs. West" era of rap. It was rough and real and very scary. Of course I am sure someone like Tupac or Biggie was probably issued some boring warrants at the time, but I am sure nobody heard about it or cared. These days anything and everything is news. Perhaps Jim Jones will make a song or two about refusing to shovel snow. Maybe he will say a controversial line about how emergency vehicles should yield to him. What do you think?
