Reports confirm that former "Melrose Place" starlet Amy Locane-Bovenizer was recently sentenced to three years in prison for vehicular homicide after being charged in a deadly DUI crash that took place back 2010. The 41-year-old actress' blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when the incident occurred, which resulted in the death of Montgomery Township, NJ resident Helene Seeman. Locane-Bovenizer initially faced up to 10 years in prison after an NJ jury found her guilty back in November.
The judge ultimately lowered Locane-Bovenizer's jail sentence from 10 to three years for the well-being of her two young children. One child has a mental and medical disability.
Locane-Bovenizer was found guilty of vehicular homicide in November 2012 in regards to the June 2010 death of 60-year-old Helene Seeman. The actress was indicted in December 2010 for aggravated manslaughter and assault by automobile. On November 27, 2012, a Somerset County jury convicted Locane of vehicular homicide and assault by auto.
According to court documents, Locane-Bovenizer was driving her SUV while intoxicated in NJ, and plowed into a car driven by Seeman's husband, Fred. The couple was just pulling into their driveway when the incident occurred - Fred Seeman was badly injured in the crash.
The three-year prison sentence was handed down in court on Thursday, Feb. 14. When the judge announced his sentence, Fred Seeman exclaimed, "What a travesty!" He then stormed out of the courtroom with his son.
Locane-Bovenizer apologized to the Seeman family for her inappropriate, tragic actions.
Locane-Bovenizer, a New Jersey native, was a member of the original cast of the popular 1990s prime-time soap opera "Melrose Place," but left the series after only 13 episodes.
