KIRO 7 Eyewitness News of Thurston County, Washington, gathered 3 volunteers and got them high on marijuana for a driving test, in what has never been done before in Washington. The outcome of this "drug test" was to show viewers what stoned driving looks like and what kind of dangers it brings onto the road. A driving instructor, a marijuana consultant and a drug recognition expert were all on duty during the segment in order to provide safety and accurate assessments of the experiment.

Cascade Driving School instructor Mike Jackson was sitting shotgun during the course tests and was able to grab the wheel or step on an emergency break in case the drivers exhibited signs of dangerous driving. According to drug recognition expert Casey Lee, the name of the marijuana brand provided was "blueberry train wreck." Clearly not a good omen for this test. Fortunately, the 3 tests subjects did pretty well with no tragic outcomes after their tests.

Before taking the first dose of marijuana, each volunteer drove the course sober with only 1 volunteer, 27-year-old Addy Norton, showing up to the segment already 3 times the legal limit of 5 nanograms fro driving under the influence of marijuana. Meaning she tested at nearly 16 nanograms. Addy is a medical marijuana patient and a heavy user. The second volunteer was 34-year-old Dylan, who only smokes on weekends. The third volunteer was 56-year-old Jeff, who only uses occasionally. These guys had no marijuana in there system before driving. Each subject did fine in the first drive around the course. They were then given 0.3 grams of pot to smoke and all drove the course with caution but without incident. After adding more pot and driving adding up to 0.9 of a gram, the effects become more apparent. Addy became a little reckless, Dylan wandered off the course and Jeff basically just wanted to stop. Apparently not satisfied, they allowed Addy to smoke even more and take another trip around the course. This time instructor Jackson was forced to step in.

After all was said and done, police officers on the scene admitted that they would not pull the volunteers over in the early trials but definitely would at each of the last turns. The test subjects were then put through sobriety tests just like any other person getting pulled over for driving under the influence. The resulting footage is pretty hilarious.
