Season 2 of the Batman prequel series, Gotham, returned to Fox. In last night's Episode 1, Twitter had lots to say about detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and his mobster rival, the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) in the highly anticipated premiere.
As we previously mentioned, during this sophomore season, Theo Galavan (James Frain), will unleash terror across Gotham City. With Tigress (Jessica Lucas) by his side, Galavant will form a band of criminals called the Maniax. The so-called Maniax happens a murderers' row of escaped Arkham Asylum inmates. The group will be led by the Joker-esque psychotic Jerome (Cameron Monaghan).
In our recent recap, after being fried from the force, Jim knew the only way back was to call in a favor from Penguin. While Barbara (Erin Richards) made herself at home at Arkham Asylum, Theo was just at the beginning stages of his sinister plot. After breaking into the caves, Bruce discovered his father's letter waiting for him. Bruce and Jim are at a crossroads as they will learn their true calling.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Bruno Heller teases, ""What we're seeing this year is the transformation of the underworld from that conventional underworld to a grotesque, larger-than-life underworld that eventually takes over Gotham and requires the creation of Batman. That was always the plan - when you're telling a story that everyone knows, and which leads to this epochal event, the birth of Batman, you have to build to something. Every season of this show will have to be bigger, and more spectacular, and more scary than the last season."
