Reports confirm that popular WCBS News anchor Rob Morrison was arrested early Sunday morning (Feb. 17) for choking his wife and fellow CBS anchor, Ashley Morrison. Law enforcement confirms that Morrison continued to fight and threaten Ashley during and after the arrest at his suburban Connecticut home. He now faces second-degree strangulation, a felony charge.
Ashley Morrison's mother placed the 911 call at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, claiming that her daughter and son-in-law were currently involved in a physical domestic argument at their $1.26 million home in Darien, CT. Once police arrived, they found 40-year-old Ashley Morrison with red marks on her neck and Rob Morrison bleeding from his face. According to reports, Rob's anger only grew as he was being handcuffed and arrested. He continued to "make verbal threats to do his wife additional harm, which were overheard by arresting officers," Darien police said.
Police claim that the spousal argument began Saturday evening - although they wouldn't release details on exactly what the fight was about, they claim it ended with Rob "choking [Ashley] by the neck with both hands."
Morrison was promptly arrested and booked at a local jail, where he was later released after posting a $100,000 bond. The 44-year-old local television personality currently faces the felony charge of second-degree strangulation. He is expected to face a judge in Stamford on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Morrison was also slapped with misdemeanor threatening and disorderly conduct charges.
Following the incident, the couple released this public statement downplaying the violent event:
"The Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerated. While this matter is being addressed, Rob and Ashley hope that their family's privacy will be respected."
Ashley's mother, Martha Risk, had no comment.
Ashley did not seek medical attention, but police did say that there was definitely evidence of an attack - "Officers did observe red marks on the victim's neck consistent with this allegation," Darien cops released in a statement.
The normally handsome and friendly Morrison (a former Marine) anchors "This Morning" and "News at Noon" with Mary Calvi for CBS' New York affiliate on Channel 2. He previously spent 10 years at WNBC/4 New York. His bombshell wife is an anchor for CBS MoneyWatch, a financial news service for local CBS stations. The couple has one son together.
According to the New York Daily News, the window panes encompassing the family's front door were papered over on Monday. Ashley was spotted wearing a black turtleneck, possibly to cover the alleged red marks and bruises on her neck.
A WCBS spokeswoman declined to comment, deeming the incident a "personal matter." It remains unknown when the Morrisons are expected to appear back on air.
