Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz may have his opinions on gay marriage, but The Late Show with Stephen Colbert audience has their opinions on Ted Cruz's opinions on gay marriage. They don't like them...
Did that make sense?
Anyway, Senator Cruz appeared on Colbert's newfound Late Show on Monday night to dodge questions about his views talk about his campaign, and then some.
During Cruz's interview, Colbert brought up the subject of former president Ronald Reagan, stating that both parties have had their reasons for championing him. Cruz claimed that Reagan is the "one Republican who has a group of Democrats named after him: Reagan Democrats."
To that, Colbert expressed that Reagan actually believed in a number of issues that would get him disqualified from being a Republican candidate today. One of which is raising taxes, and the second being calling for an amnesty program for illegal immigrants. Moreover, Reagan would occasionally build a relationship with his opposing party – the Democrats.
Colbert asked if Cruz would agree with Reagan on those two things; and of course, he could not. The host then eventually asked if Cruz would be willing to compromise with the Democrats should he be elected president – to which he didn't say no, but he also didn't say yes. He really just talked about how he doesn't like to spit fire.
And after listing his policies, Colbert added, "And no gay marriage."
Finally, after side-stepping around the fact that he's not in favor of gay marriage, Cruz was welcomed with quite a few boos from the crowd. And like a true boss, Colbert stopped that noise right away.
So, let this be a lesson to you, future Late Show audience members: if there's a guest on the show that you're not a fan of, keep your opinions to yourself. And, of course, to Twitter.
