The September 23, 2015 episode of WWE's NXT will air tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern and will continue to build toward the NXT Takeover: Respect live special on October 7. We've got a full preview for tonight's broadcast below, so let's dive into it.
We received numerous details about Respect last week. For starters, we know that Bayley and Sasha Banks will main event the show, the first time two women will headline a WWE pay-per-view or live event. The two will have a rematch for the NXT Women's Championship, which Bayley won last month at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. Moreover, this will be a 30-minute Iron Woman match!
But we also learned that the final three matches of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament will be on the card at Respect, rather than just the finals as General Manager William Regal had previously announced. So the two semifinal matches and the championship round will take place on October 7.
So with all that said, what's on tap for NXT tonight? WWE has been heavily promoting the NXT Tag Team Champions, The Vaudevillains, for tonight's show. WWE has already announced that the champions will defend their titles tonight against former champs Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy, whom they beat for the titles at Brooklyn and whom they beat in the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tournament. But as always, Blake and Murphy have the X factor of Alexa Bliss in their back pocket.
The Vaudevillains also took part in the second round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic against Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson during a live event recently, and reports say the champions lost that match. Will we see highlights of that match tonight?
Last week, Bayley and Sasha Banks put an exclamation point on the end of the episode of NXT with a fantastic segment. Sasha now respects (hence the name of the upcoming live special) Bayley because the champion beat her fair and square last month. But that changes nothing. Sasha claims Bayley was better than her for three seconds, and The Boss will prove that when they face off yet again.
It's possible we don't see much, if any, of the two women in the next two weeks prior to Respect. But if we do, it would likely be in the form of a contract signing segment next week.
Elsewhere, NXT Champion Finn Balor has no real challenger for his belt, and he's tied up in the Dusty Rhodes tournament anyway with Samoa Joe as his partner. It's possible that Joe turns on Balor at Respect to set up a title feud, but we'll have to wait for that.
NXT has also announced that Tyler Breeze will face Bull Dempsey tonight. Prince Pretty turned on Dempsey after they lost their first round match in the Dusty Rhodes tournament to Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. It's possible this mini-feud culminates tonight, but we could also see a non-finish of some kind to set up a rematch at Respect in order to end this properly.
Speaking of the two indie stars, they put up a fight against Rhyno and Baron Corbin last week, but the two powerhouses cut short their run through the bracket and advanced to the semifinals. Will we learn the rest of the bracket tonight?
Finally, Japanese female star Asuka will premiere on tonight's show.
