An unnamed gunman went on a carjacking and shooting rampage this morning in Orange County, California, resulting in 4 deaths including the suspect who took his own life. After an initial carjacking turned fatal at around 4:45 a.m., police began a long line of related shooting locations. This first location was a home in Ladera Ranch where the body of a woman was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police then responded to a report involving a carjacking and shots fired in Tustin at around 5:30 a.m. According to police, 1 bystander was shot during the incident. From there, the suspect moved onto Village Way, repeating his actions of a carjacking and shooting. In this case, the victim of the carjacking was also the second person to be murdered by this man. Video of the altercation revealed the stolen car to be a pick up truck. The last carjacking involved 2 victims being shot and 1 of which did not survive. The other shooting victim was hospitalized in critical condition. 2 more shooting victims were found during the pursuit.

The subject was cornered in the parking lot of a local electronics store. According to a Tustin police statement, as soon as officers stopped the suspect in the third stolen car, the gunman took his own life. Aerial footage has shown Tustin police as well as California Highway Patrol vehicles stopped at a nearby intersection east of the 55 Freeway, where the body of the shooter can be seen in the middle of the road. Also, the initial carjacking in Ladera Ranch has yet to be officially linked to the other events of the day. With the suicide of the gunman occurring around 5:55 a.m. this shooting spree lasted about 25 minutes, not including the initial carjacking. There are still a lot of questions and possible leads, but for now the shooting has stopped and the danger is over.

This incident comes right on the tails of the Chris Dorner mass murdering rampage earlier this month, just days after the manhunt ended in the death of the ex LAPD gunman. Today's shooting spree happened about 35 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently being brought in to investigate this case. There have been no links with today's spree and anything involving Dorner, but the day is young. As more evidence surfaces and the motives for today's rampage become clear, this tragedy will surely be another milestone in the crazy crimes happening in California.
