If you found $11,000 in a parking lot, would you return it? That is what a California couple did when they found over $11,000 in a camera bag in a nearby parking lot, while visiting San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.
According to NBCBayArea.com, Carlos and Barbara Landeros of Vallejo, California were in San Francisco for a Valentines Day dinner. While walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, they came across a camera bag, which contained credit cards, papers, and just over $11,000.
While most people would be tempted to take the cash and run, Carlos and Barbara actually waited over 45 minutes to see if the owner of the bag returned. If that wasn't nice enough, after they grew tired of waiting to see if the owner would return, they brought the bag ($11,000 and all) to the police.
Police were able to track down the owner of the $11,000 using the credit cards in the bag to a Chinese tourist named Mark, who was holding the money for multiple families. The tourist had accidentally left the bag in the parking lot and was understandably thrilled when he found out the bag was returned with not a cent missing. The tourist described Carlos and Barbara as "very, very kind in heart."
Mark was able to track down Carlos and Barbara and called to thank them. He also let them know that there was a check in the mail as a reward for their kind deed. How much did Carlos and Barbara earn for their trouble? Unfortunately Mark did not reveal how much money he gave to the kind couple.
As a result of their kind deed, the couple got stuck in traffic on their way to their Valentines Day dinner and ended up having dinner at a McDonald's next to the police station. Carlos and Barbara had to spend hours writing out a police report. They may; however, have some good karma coming their way.
Carlos and Barbara clearly did the right thing in bringing the money to the police, but would you have done the same?
