Shia LaBeouf Calls it Quits on Broadway Debut in 'Orphans' Due to 'Creative Differences,' Exposes Details on Twitter Page

Shia LaBeouf unexpectedly quit his role in the Broadway production of "Orphans" due to "creative differences," leaving behind fellow co-stars Alec Baldwin and Tom Sturridge. Had the A-list actor not aborted mission Broadway, "Orphans" would have marked LaBeouf's Broadway debut.

According to NYTimes.com, the producers of the Lyle Kessler play announced Shia's discontinuation on the project on Wednesday.

"Due to creative differences, the producers of 'Orphans' and Shia LaBeouf will be parting ways and he will not be continuing with the production," press representatives for the play said in a brief statement. "An announcement on the replacement for the role of 'Treat' will be made shortly."

These "creative differences" were later cleared up by Shia's public Twiitter account where he linked screen shots of private e-mail exchanges between a few members involved in the production, including co-star Alec Baldwin and director Daniel Sullivan.

The e-mail he received on Feb.19 from Sullivan reads as follows:

"I'm too old for disagreeable situations. you're one hell of a great actor. Alec is who he is. you are who you are. you two are  i ncompatible. I should have known it. this one will haunt me. you tried to warn me. you said you were a different breed. I didn't get it. Dan"

Baldwin also reached out to LaBeouf via e-mail:

"I've been through this before. It's been a while. And perhaps some of the particulars are different. But it comes down to the fact that what we all do now is critical. Perhaps especially for you. When the change comes, how do we handle it, whether it be good or bad? What do we learn? I don't have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word. "

In reply to Baldwin, he simply responded:

"same. be well. good luck on the play. you'll be great."

Shia was clearly not shy about airing out the crew's dirty laundry via Twitter, but at least his departure seemed pretty civil.

The show must go on, with or without LaBeouf. Previews of the revival of Kessler's 1983 play about two orphaned brothers who kidnap a mysterious rich older man are set to begin March 19 with opening day closely following on April 7 at the Schoenfeld Theatre.

Which actor will fill the newly vacant role of the older orphan brother 'Treat?' That is still to be determined.

As for Shia and his recent bow out...the curtains shall remain closed on LaBeouf's Broadway debut until perhaps another opportunity comes along with promise of "creative compatibility."
