A California man shot and wounded two San Diego County sheriff deputies Wednesday, then committed suicide according to reports. After a eight hour standoff with SWAT, 22-year-old Evan Kwik (identified by CBS8 News) killed himself early Thursday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a woman had called the police saying her adult son stole her car after he found out she had a restraining order against him. Just a couple hours later the woman called police back to say he had returned the car. When police came to the house they found Kwik hiding.

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that the two deputies tried to coerce Kwik to come out, but when he wouldn't, they fired tear gas. Kwik then responded by shooting the deputies.

According to San Diego County Sheriff's spokeswoman Melissa Aquino, the deputies were evacuated and sent to the hospital. Both are expected to survive. One deputy was wounded in the forehead, while the other was shot in the leg.

Early Thursday morning, SWAT used robotic surveillance devices to check on the suspect, only to find him dead. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department issued a statement saying that the suspect was found in the 700 block of Del Rio Avenue residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

While the country waits to see what Washington D.C. does in terms of gun control, it seems like there is a new report of gun violence every day. Encinitas is just another example of what can happen when guns get in the hands of the wrong person.

Despite two deputies being shot and wounded, it appears they will both survive. This incident will surely be used by those in Washington looking for stricter gun control as an example of what could continue to happen if action isn't taken soon. According to the Los Angles Times, this is the second incident within months, where San Diego deputies were wounded in a gun battle.
