Scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson stopped by Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday and was surpsied to hear that he was able to change Maher's mind on the whole water on Mars issue. Apparently, Maher never thought finding liquid water on Mars was that big of a deal. Tyson, through his "spiel," was able to change the mind of the oftentimes-labeled "opinionated" comedian's mind.

"We've always known there was water," Tyson said about the recent findings of water on Mars, adding, "We did find direct evidence of liquid water, now."

To that, Maher admitted, "I have to say, you convinced me, because you did your spiel..."

The spiel Maher is referring to is Tyson's thoughts that back when things such as electricity and atoms were being discovered – in the very early stages – there were many naysayers explaining that those looking into those discoveries were wasting their time.

With that in mind, Tyson believes that while the "tiny" discovery of liquid water might be miniscule to some people now, we have no comprehension of what this could do for us in the future.

"You can't get in the way of research that is going to new places because you never know how that will come back with us," he said.

On being able to change Maher's mind, Tyson explained that he was flattered to be able to bring the comedian to new places, intellectually.

Of course, not fashion-wise. Take a look at the video and you'll understand.

So, water on Mahers – thoughts?

Yep, we did that, and we're not happy about it either.
