As if the hard-luck Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors didn't have it bad enough, now they are being overshadowed by a confrontation between rapper Wale and commentator Matt Devlin.

The whole thing started when Wale got into a heated conversation with Raptors forward Rudy Gay during Tuesday's Raptors-Wizards game in D.C. Devlin apparently saw the opportunity as a chance to take potshots at the rapper's popularity.

He referred to Wale as a "well-known local rapper" before asking if anyone in his audience had ever heard of him.

"I'm sure somebody on Twitter can tell me exactly if they've ever heard of Wale," Devlin said. "He's not Drake, that's for sure."

Wale took offense to the assumption that he was less popular than the Toronto-based rapper and the Seinfeld-loving rhymeslinger took to Twitter to send Devlin a warning. Wale tweeted "watch ur mouth" to the Raptors sportscaster.

In the third quarter, Wale walked up to the broadcast booth to give Devlin a piece of his mind, though he told the Washington Post that he was "just introducing myself, that's all." Wale went on to say that reminded the announcer that he wasn't "from here" and that's why he didn't know.

Several bystanders claim that the rapper was yelling "I heard what you said. That's not cool." Wale didn't confirm this and Devlin claims the rapper was only yelling because they were in a basketball arena, though Wale's angry tweets suggest otherwise.

The rapper tweeted the following Tuesday night.

"Somebody call u out your name. And you confront them. YOU wrong. So who u cheerin for the people who take insults in stride? Since when."

Devlin says the whole thing was a misunderstanding and he never meant to disparage the artist. He claims that he was only poking fun at himself because he's "not hip."
