Will Smith revealed that a Bad Boys 3 movie is confirmed, as the actor said that the third film in the franchise could release next year. The Men In Black Hollywood star did an interview with Zane Lowe for his Beats 1 radio show, where he discussed the future of the action comedy film that fans have been itching for answers for.
Smith finally opened up on the highly-anticipated film, which stars him and Martin Lawrence, and revealed some amazing news about a possible release date that would be sooner than fans thought.
"There is a very, very, very strong possibility that you will be seeing a Bad Boys within the next 12 to 16 months,” Smith told Lowe in the interview.
By looking at the calendar, that could mean that Bad Boys 3 could be coming to fans around late 2016/early-mid 2017. This confirms the reports that it was slated for a Feb. 17, 2017 release date, which was reportedly found on Sony’s release schedule. There have also been reports that Sony is working on not one, but two more films for the Bad Boy franchise, with Bad Boys IV possibly being slated for July 3, 2019.
Cinemablend reported that Joe Carnahan was previously hired by Sony to work on the script for Bad Boys III, and production for the film was going to possibly start this Fall season. At this point, only time will tell if the filming starts on time, and if Smith and Lawrence will reunite for the third installment in the series.
The reason for the delay in the film comes from Smith’s involvement in Suicide Squad, which is slated to release Aug. 5, 2016. Once that film is released, fans and Sony executives are reportedly hoping that Smith will be on track to go hard with promotion for Bad Boys III.
