Ok, stick with me on this one because it can get a little crazy. On Monday, Morrissey's press camp released a statement claiming that the Staples Center in Los Angeles was -for the first time in its history- going meat-free at the request of Morrissey.
The Staples Center cleared up the misconception with a statement of thier own saying that the Staples Center was absolutely not going vegetarian.
As we have done in the past, we are happy to create a menu with a greater variety of vegetarian items for our guests that prefer these types of options, said Staples Center Senior Vice President and General manager Lee Zeidman, in a statement denying the meatless claims. "We respect Morrissey's lifestyle and his concern for the wishes of so many of his fans and are happy that we are able to honor his requests in this manner."
This drew the ire of one Mr. Mighty Moz. He stopped by Morrissey focused blog, True to You, dropped his gloves and revealed his claws with the following statement.
"Reports that the Staples Center will not be 100% vegetarian on March 1st are playfully untrue," Morrissey assured, contrary to the statement from the people who actually run the venue.
"Contractually, all McDonalds vendors shall be closed down, and the only thing burning shall be my heart."
It will be interesting to see who backs down in this situation, now that lines have been drawn. If we're being honest, Morrissey has never been afraid to cancel shows on principle, so Staples Center might be smart to heed his demands, even if it goes against the Center's promise of "providing our guests with the greatest number of amenities and food options in an arena setting,"
What do you think? Should Staples Center cave or is Morrissey being too demanding?
