What the crap is going on in space, people? Just a couple of weeks ago it was discovered that liquid water actually exists on Mars, and now we're finding out the Pluto, you know the dumb dwarf planet, could possibly have both blue skies and water ice, according to NASA.
WTF?!?
Does this means that aliens exists? Well, no, but it's an amazing discovering nonetheless.
Per a statement from NASA, it's been discovered that the first images ever of Pluto's atmospheric hazes were sent back from the New Horizons spacecraft. And after careful tests, it looks as if those aforementioned hazes are not only gray and red, but also blue (kind of).
So, what the hell does that mean? From the statement:
"...the way [the hazes] scatter blue light has gotten the attention of the New Horizons science team. 'That striking blue tint tells us about the size and composition of the haze particles,'" according to Carly Howett, a researched from SwRI.
Furthermore, those findings are rather equivalent to that of a blue sky.
"A blue sky often results from scattering of sunlight by very small particles. On Earth, the particles are very tiny nitrogen molecules. On Pluto they appear to be larger – but still relatively small – soot-like particles we call tholins."
Again, what the hell does all of this mean? After a lot of scientific jargon, it means blue skies.
Secondly, the report from NASA reads that large portions of the dwarf planet do not show exposed water ice; instead, "more volatile ices" are spread across a large portion of the planet.
NASA is still trying to figure out why the water ice lays where it does on the planet.
Oh, and apparently it's red?
"I'm surprised the water ice is so red," claims scientist Silvia Protopapa, "We don't yet understand the relationship between water ice and the reddish tholin colorants on Pluto's surface."
Well, when you do, Silvia, get back to us because the world is going to freak out if both Pluto and Mars have water but California is suffering a drought like cray cray.
