In an interview with Rolling Stone, Pearl Jam guitarist confirmed the release of a 2013 album for the iconic rock band. Mike McCready told the magazine, "this year, for sure."
McCready went on to say the band is ""working on demos right now and we're going to be recording soon."
This is great news for Pearl Jam fans who haven't gotten a new album from the band since 2009's Backspacer. In the interview, McCready also revealed that they will be teaming with producer Brendan O'Brien. When explaining what the new album could sound like the Pearl Jam guitarist explained, "I would say as a cliché answer it's kind of a logical extension of what 'Backspacer' was. But I think there's a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There's a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there's a punk rock edge to other stuff."
According to the Rolling Stone article, McCready said that seven of the songs are nearly completed and there are an addition 15 songs "ready to go."
Back in January in an interview with Rolling Stone, lead singer Eddie Vedder told them they were about halfway done with the new album.
Pearl Jam hasn't completely been out of the game since their 2009 album though. They recently released a Christmas fan club single and Vedder hosts a radio show on SiriusXM. Vedder has been keeping plenty busy with guest appearances involving various different musicians.
Back in 2011, Pearl Jam debuted a new song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon called "Ole`"
It will be very interesting to see what kind of sound Pearl Jam comes out with as the band is known for their grunge rock roots, but has the ability to transform themselves if they want. Needless to say, this is a very exciting time for Pearl Jam fans as the band is close to launching a brand new album sometime this year.
