Based on the 2007 Paramount feature film, of the same starring Mark Wahlberg, Shooter is making its way to USA Network. Actress Shantel VanSanten (The Flash) joins the cast alongside Ryan Phillippe (Crash), Emily Rios (Breaking Bad) and Omar Epps (House) in the USA drama, which will also be executive produced by Wahlberg.
As we perviously mentioned, a formal pilot order was given to the project from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Prods. The USA drama is inspired by author Stephen Hunter's novel, Point of Impact. The plot revolves around an ex-Marine sniper, Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe), who is recruited to thwart a presidential assassination. Swagger hen becomes framed for the heinous crime.
Adapted by John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening) and Simon Cellan Jones (Ballers) is on board to direct, Wahlberg stated, "I love the character of Bob Lee Swagger and we are thrilled to have Ryan on board for the show."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, VanSanten will play Julie Swagger, the wife and best friend of Bob. While the Marine sniper was deployed, Julie (VanSanten) remained tough and strong for their daughter. With her husband back at home, she worked hard to create their life together. With her husband living off the grid, Julie's marriage is suddenly shattered by the events that no one saw coming.
As we previously mentioned, The Wood actor has landed the role of Swagger's former commanding officer-turned-Secret Service agent Isaac Johnson. After Swagger is put into action, Johnson (Epps) is ultimately the person responsible for the double-cross and framing him for the assassination attempt.
Emily Rios will play role of Nadine Memphis, an ambitious young FBI agent. Memphis (Rios) unravels a conspiracy with Swagger. At the center of the conspiracy, Memphis now has a target on her back. She is forced to form an uneasy alliance with Swagger.
VanSanten can currently be seen in the sophomore season of The Flash as comic book heroine, Patty Spivot.
No word yet when Shooter, which is one of five drama pilots ordered for 2016, will make its official premiere on USA Network.
