Rapper Gunplay is counting his lucky stars today after having assault and armed robbery charges dropped that could have landed the Floridian artist in prison for life.
In April 2012, Gunplay allegedly pulled a gun on his former accountant Turron Woodside. In a video of the incident, it appears that Gunplay (real name, Richard Morales Jr.) pulls a gun on Woodside and repeatedly beats him with it. Morales aka Gunplay was also charged with lifting a gold chain and cell phone from Woodside over the course of the beating. The whole event was captured on tape and is below:
Morales turned himself in to authorities in October, shortly after an altercation at the BET awards with members of 50 Cent's entourage and prosecutors began putting a case together.
However, in spite of this rather damning evidence, Morales tweeted the following today:
"jus gave da State of Florida back a life sentence!! Case dismissed!! S/o to da Bath Salt Boss @rickyrozay #medellin - ADOLF SNIFFLER" (@GUNPLAYMMG)
So, what gives?
TMZ reports that the case fell apart due to a lack of cooperation from Woodside, the victim of the assault. Authorities could not serve Woodside with a subpeona in order to authenticate the footage and said that family members gave several different excuses as to the reason for his disappearance.
"Video alone is not enough to convict an individual of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt," the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office said in an interview with TMZ. Although the armed robbery is captured on the victim's surveillance system, the victim, Turron Woodside, is uncooperative of the prosecution of this defendant Richard Morales."
Without Woodside's authentification that it was, in fact, Gunplay in the video, the most important evidence in the case was unuseable and the case proceeded to fall apart. The charges were dropped this morning.
