Please be aware Batman fans, this is a major spoiler. In an upcoming issue of "Batman Incorporated", Robin is set to be killed off by DC Comics. That's right, Batman's sidekick Robin could be done for good.

A comic book publisher confirmed to The New York Post that Robin's initial demise will first occur in issue number eight and will continue throughout DC Comics.

Writer Grant Morrison says, "He saves the world. He does his job as Robin." Morrison also says, "He dies an absolute hero."

There have been a number of Robin's throughout the history of Batman comics. The original Robin character was Dick Grayson, introduced in the 1940's. Another popular Robin was teenage Jason Todd who was killed off in 1998, but later returned in the comics in 2005. This Robin, aka Damian Wayne, is the ten-year-old son of Bruce Wayne.

In the comic books, Damian was created by Morrison in 2006 as a violent brat who grew into a respectable member of the Batman comics. As Morris explains it, "What we did was turn this little monster into a superhero." Robin is reportedly killed battling an assassin, but according to Morris, Robin "dies an absolute hero."

Morris went on to tell The Post that he aimed to bring an adult look of "how parents lose sight of their kids when they fight." Morrison is a child of divorce himself and used his own experience to help write the character.

Past Robin's have come back after being killed off so there is always a chance this isn't the last we see of Damian Wayne. Only time will tell if the "Boy Wonder" ever returns.

For comic book fans, where does Robin rank in your favorite comic book characters? He has never been an enormously popular character because he is just sidekick, but he has a passionate following.

There is no word on what impact, if any, this will have on Robin in the Dark Knight movies. Actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt played John Blake in the most recent "Dark Knight Rises." It seems as though Gordon-Levitt is on track to become Robin by the next Batman movie.

Batman fans will just have to wait and see what becomes of Robin the "Boy Wonder."
