Drake's "Hotline Bling" has plenty of remixes featuring Jadakiss, Erykah Badu, Keyshia Cole and more. Now, we're got another name to add to that list: Cleveland Cavaliers' point guard, Iman Shumpert. Shumpert created his own rendition to the hit song, and called it "Highlight Reel."
Now, it's no secret that Shumpert's bound to be a Drake fan considering his teammate, LeBron James, is quite close to Drake, and his very pregnant, R&B singing girlfriend, Teyana Taylor, has remixed a Drake song in the past ("Marvin's Room" titled "Her Room"). It's also quite normal for rap stars to mention ball players in their songs, but for a ball player to rap his own song is definitely not all that common.
However, this Cavaliers' guard is no stranger to the rap game. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, as the Cavs made their way to the playoffs last season, Shumpert recorded an anthem for the quest to end the Cavs' desire for a championship, but unfortunately, Cleveland ended up losing to the Golden State Warriors. Shumpert also released another joint shorty after the signing a $40 million deal with the Cavaliers. This track was about his life in Chicago and the downside of being a millionaire.
As Shumpert continues his rehab, working his way back to the court after undergoing a wrist surgery, he's back to rapping (temporarily, of course). His latest masterpiece is his remix to Drake's "Hotline Bling."
Billboard reports that on the track, titled "Highlight Reel," Shumpert raps about his $40 million contract with the Cavs, his flamboyant plays on court and also the Cavaliers' unfortunate loss against the Golden State Warriors in last season's NBA Finals: I know they love that highlight reel / that's why they focus on that Jumbotron...Try to contemplate my mental pain/ When I took that L from Golden State.
