Southampton principal, Esther Adler-O'Keefe, may claim she made her decision to be in a racy video starring rapper J.R. and Trey Songz, without knowing the lyrics or the content of the video but Songz is saying otherwise.  The R&B singer claims that Ms. Adler-O'Keefe knew what she was getting into and knew the song lyrics before the video was filmed. Songz spoke to the cameras about the news that Adler-O'Keefe was fired from the high school where she worked after her short appearance in the new music video, "Best Friend."

When asked about the principal’s firing, Songz told TMZ cameras, “I definitely want to reach out to her. I feel bad about it.” Songz claimed that the principal knew what she was about to get into because she had “heard the song a million times. So she knew what was up." He added, “I still feel bad about it. She didn’t do nothing wrong. It was cool, she was on the level with the students so it’s love, I’m going to reach out to her."  However, Songz did not explain how he knows she had heard the song or where she had heard the song before.

After Adler-O'Keefe was reassigned to "overseeing a variety of academic support services throughout the district," she became the talk of the music media.

Back in September, she stated to The Southampton Press, that she was clueless in regards to the video's content before she had already agreed to play a role in "Best Friend."

"Speaking as a private individual and not in my professional capacity, I wish to state for the record that, when I agreed to participate, I was completely unaware of the content, lyrics and title of the video and song," Ms. Adler-O'Keefe stated last month. "Had I known of such content or lyrics, I certainly would not have participated in any fashion. I find the lyrics and content of the music video vulgar, offensive and demeaning."

Like Trey Songz, some students believed that Principal Adler-O'Keefe should get her job back, but if you ask the superintendent of that school district, Dr. Scott Farina, she has a different tone about her employee's decision to be in a music video.

Her statement read, “The video in question showcases behaviors and language use that is not promoted by the Southampton School District. In fact, we actively teach our students the importance of good character and making smart choices. Additionally, this is not representative of who we are as a district, nor of our students and staff.”
