Charlize Theron is usually known for her acting ability and on-screen beauty. Sunday night at the 85th Annual Academy Awards, Theron played the role of hero. During the pre-show activities on the red carpet for the Oscars, Theron helped a security guard who was having a seizure.

According to E! Online, Theron rushed to the aid of the security guard when she noticed he collapsed outside Hollywood's Dolby Theater where the Oscars were taking place. Theron tried to help the man up as someone else called an ambulance. She did all this in her white Christian Dior Haute Couture gown and new short hairdo.

The South African movie star, who was accompanied to the show by her mother, was near the man when he collapsed. The red carpet is usually a hectic area with photographers shouting out celebrities names trying to get their attention. Theron showed great poise being able to recognize the security guard was in trouble.

After all this, Theron had to open the show by performing a dance number with Channing Tatum as Oscars host Seth MacFarlane sang Fred Astaire's "The Way You Look Tonight." No one would have ever known that Theron had just witnessed a man collapsing due to a seizure minutes earlier. The star later presented the award for Best Adapted Screenplay along with Dustin Hoffman.

Speaking with E! Online later in the night about her opening song and dance, Theron downplayed her performance.

"(It was) completely nerve-wracking, but how could I not dance with Channing Tatum?" Theron questioned. "He's so wonderful! I was sort of tricked into it. I thought it was going to be something smaller, like he (MacFarlane) pulls me up from the audience and we do a little spin. But then he was was like, 'Rehearsals start Monday!'"

Theron is starring in "Mad Max: Fury Road" along with Tom Hardy, coming out in 2014. Clearly being a movie star has not gone to Theron's head.
